Karachi Pakistan : The Consulate General of Sri Lanka organized a vibrant and colourful “Surya Vedana” celebrations to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year at the lush lawns of Iqra University Defence Campus. The event was attended by a large number of Sri Lankan community living in Karachi, Sri Lankan students studying in various educational institutions and other guests.
Traditional sports and cultural activities were organized in the event which filled the atmosphere with cheerful and festive colours. The participants participated in these activities with great enthusiasm. Addressing the event, Sri Lankan Consul General Sanjiva Patiula said that “Surya Vidana” is not just the beginning of a new year but also a symbol of unity, harmony and new hopes. He said that this festival not only connects people with their cultural roots but also promotes mutual understanding between different communities.
Highlighting the long-standing friendly relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, he said that such cultural programs play an important role in further strengthening the ties between the people of the two countries. He appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the Sri Lankan students and termed them as cultural ambassadors of their country.
Traditional Sri Lankan cuisine was also served at the event, including curry bhath, cokes and the famous dish fish ambol thial, which was greatly appreciated by the participants. Prominent business figures of Pakistan also attended the event, including representatives of the Pakistan Sri Lanka Business Forum Aslam Pakhali, Sohail Shamim Firpo, Atif Farooqui and Athar Iqbal. Representatives of Iqra University also attended the event and appreciated this cultural celebration. The participants welcomed the growing economic and cultural relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
