Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is set to inaugurate the Yellow Line Train Project in Lahore later this year, according to media reports. The feasibility study for the advanced urban transit system is nearly complete, with construction expected to begin in September 2025 and completion slated for June 2026.
Spanning 24 kilometers, the Yellow Line will run along both sides of Canal Road, connecting Jinnah Bus Terminal to Harbanspura. The project’s estimated cost ranges between Rs60 billion to Rs80 billion.
The line will feature 18 smart, modern stations and aims to serve approximately 130,000 passengers daily. It is being added to the upcoming annual development budget, marking a major step forward in Lahore’s public transportation infrastructure.
A fleet of 30 electric trains, to be imported from China, will be used—similar to systems already operational in China and the UAE.
Though the project has already received initial approval from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, it still awaits a formal go-ahead from the Punjab Cabinet, after which it will be submitted to ECNEC (Executive Committee of the National Economic Council) for final approval.
