BRITAIN : Following a significant increase in chocolate thefts in the UK, many shops and supermarkets have started locking chocolate bars in plastic lock boxes. According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, shopkeepers say that chocolate from well-known brands has now become one of the most stolen items. Industry experts have warned that stolen chocolate is later resold and the proceeds are used for other criminal activities. Some small businesses are facing losses of hundreds of pounds worth of chocolate every week. According to the police, evidence indicates that some of the suspects are stealing a specific quantity of chocolate on order. A major British supermarket chain has admitted that it is using special boxes to store products that are regularly stolen. In a London branch, chocolates worth £2.60 are also kept in a lockbox, which customers have to approach staff to open. Various police forces have also shared videos on social media to highlight the issue. Police have released CCTV footage of a man in the store carrying a tray of chocolates, while another video shows a man pulling an entire shelf and carrying it out of the shop.
