Pitlochry — Cath Marshall has been honored as Pitlochry’s Citizen of the Year for her extensive and quiet work in enhancing the local community. A key figure in several community initiatives, Cath serves as the coordinator for the Pitlochry Neighbourhood Watch, where she plays a crucial role in monitoring and disseminating safety messages from the police and Neighbourhood Watch Scotland. Her responsibilities include advising on suspect media and potential scams, and she provides monthly updates on her activities to local publications, Pitlochry Life and The Quair.
For years, Cath has also managed the local Christmas Card delivery service, which supports the community minibus through fundraising. Alongside her husband George, she runs the Tryst Walking Group, creating opportunities for residents to engage in social walks in and around Pitlochry, fostering community spirit and promoting physical well-being.
Recently, she has increased her involvement with the Pitlochry Paths Group, dedicating time to the maintenance and improvement of the town’s footpaths. Upon receiving her award, Cath chose to donate her prize money to the Pitlochry Paths Group and the John Muir Trust, further supporting environmental conservation efforts.
Cath’s dedication to the community was celebrated at an award ceremony attended by local dignitaries including Dougal Spaven, Alan Norris, and Stephen Carruthers from RW Bell, the sponsors of the Citizen of the Year Award.
