Karachi : Fakhruddin Diwan, Chairman of the Pak – UAE Business Council & a prominent member of the Dawoodi Bohra community, has appreciated the fact that UAE has always stood by Pakistan whenever the country needed; specifically, their role in boosting foreign exchange reserves to fulfil IMF conditionalities and avert default on various occasions in Pakistan’s history.
He, however, proposed that, in the backdrop of a huge bilateral trade deficit of $6 billion with UAE, Pakistan should request the UAE government to facilitate Pakistani exports to UAE; establish industrial joint ventures in Pakistan and encourage its citizens to invest in Pakistan’s economy. It will help Pakistan a great deal on a sustainable basis in terms of bridging the trade deficit; support economic growth and create employment opportunities locally in the labor-intensive industries.
Fakhruddin Diwan specifically appreciated the very active role played by H.E Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi, Consul General of UAE, in forging people-to-people and business-to-business relations between the two brotherly countries. He also apprised that UAE has always been supportive of Dawoodi Bohra community’s business, trade and commercial endeavors in UAE.
Fakhruddin Diwan also highlighted the friendly role of UAE in the aftermath of floods last year; providing employment opportunities to Pakistani skilled & semi-skilled workforce; supporting Pakistan on international forums and strategically & decisively siding with Pakistan in all times of economic crises.
