Karachi: The National Emergencies Operation Center of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted that the areas of activities in Sindh province are likely to experience a few scattered rainfall, wind storms, or thunderstorms in the next 12 to 24 hours. The areas that are likely to be covered include Kashmore, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Umarkot, Badin, Mithi, Tharparkar, and the neighboring districts.
In that statement, NDMA mentioned the possible effects like minor floods affecting urban areas and overflow of Nullas. The authority has urged the Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and other local bodies to remain vigilant and follow all the measures required to safeguard vulnerable communities.
People in the low-risk areas, particularly those in the urban areas, have been advised to be very careful and organize for disaster preparedness due to the possibility of urban flooding. NDMA reiterated the need to obey any orders issued by local administrators and also to adhere to any guidelines put in place regarding safety measures.
To help enable the communities at risk to achieve this and have constant access to the alerts, guidelines and precautionary measures, NDMA has developed the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert ‘application. This application offers randomness when conveying crucial information and updates during calamities.
With changing weather conditions, NDMA keeps engaging other players on increasing risk reduction measures and preparedness as it remains responsive to disasters that may occur. Therefore the public is encouraged to listen to the official announcements and do whatever it takes to protect their lives and property against the effects of unfavorable weather conditions.
