Amna Rahman is a Karachi-based artist born in 1993. She holds a BFA, with a specialization in painting, from the National College of Arts, Lahore, with Distinction (2017). Rahman’s artistic journey encompasses various exhibitions, including solo show “Alternative Selves” at O Art Space, Lahore (2022), and the two-person exhibition “For the Love of Life,” curated by Quddus Mirza, at Canvas Gallery, Karachi (2022). Additionally, Rahman participated in group shows such as “Flower of a Blue Flame” at Canvas Gallery, Karachi (2021), and “The Skin We Live In” at the same venue (2019). Rahman’s work has also been displayed in an exhibition hosted by Antidote Dubai (2020) and the Karachi Biennale performance “Noah’s Ark” (2019). Rahman’s talent garnered attention when their work was featured in the BBC documentary “Dangerous Borders” (2017) and published in the book “Imago Mundi” curated by Ambereen Karamat and Amanullah Mojadidi, showcased at the Venice Biennale (2017).
In this latest exhibition, “Quest of the Self,” Amna Rahman explores multiple realities and states of being through figurative imagery. The artworks delve into the subconscious realm, symbolizing ‘otherness’ and probing the psychological implications beyond the literal face. Birds serve as messengers between the human and extraterrestrial worlds, representing the nocturnal darkness of the subconscious.
Join us at Canvas Gallery for the opening reception of “Quest of the Self” on Tuesday, 1st August 2023, from 4 pm to 7 pm, and witness the exploration of the Self by the artist Amna Rahman.
