WASHINGTON DC – Amazon is suing Pentagon over a $10 billion cloud-computing contract awarded to rival Microsoft.
The lawsuit, which was filed under seal in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, is termed as Amazon’s one of the most aggressive moves to defend its competitive edge in the world of federal government contracts.
According to Amazon officials, they initially planned to formally protest against the evaluation process of Pentagon which was ‘deficient’ in their opinion.
Now it has filed a legal complaint with the U.S. Court of Federal Claims seeking to challenge the decision.
In court paperwork, Amazon said the lawsuit was filed under seal because it contains “sensitive” information that “would cause severe competitive harm” if it’s released.
The contract, formally known as the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI), was sought by Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle and IBM. It was awarded to Microsoft in late October.
Amazon’s competitive bid for the “war cloud” project drew criticism from President Donald Trump, who said over the summer that he wanted the Pentagon to take a closer look.
