HYDERABAD: Telugu actor Allu Arjun has been arrested by Hyderabad Police in connection with the death of a woman during a stampede at a special screening of his latest film, Pushpa 2: The Rule.
The incident occurred on December 4 at Sandhya Theatre, located at the bustling RTC Crossroads, where a massive crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the star.
A 35-year-old woman, identified as Revathi, lost her life in the stampede, while her nine-year-old son, Sri Teja, has been critically injured and is recovering in a local hospital.
Police officials from Chikkadpally police station took Arjun into custody from his residence in Jubilee Hills today (Friday) for questioning on the complaint filed by the deceased’s family.
A case has been registered against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management for not informing the police about Allu Arjun’s presence at the screening.
The theatre management reportedly knew of his appearance but did not notify the authorities, which could have ensured adequate security measures.
Furthermore, the theatre lacked separate entry and exit points for attendees, exacerbating the chaos when the crowd surged.
