MEXICAN : New details have emerged about the death of Nemesis Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho, the notorious Mexican drug lord and head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, who became a cover for the world. According to the international news agency, this successful operation was made possible by the drug lord’s girlfriend, who was being closely monitored by security agencies. Mexican authorities admitted that their girlfriend’s movements were tracked in order to gain access to El Mencho and plan a major military operation against him. Intelligence agencies said that a close associate of the drug lord brought his girlfriend to the Tapalpa region in the state of Jalisco. Which confirmed that El Mencho was in the same area and would meet his girlfriend. Only then was the operation finalized. According to Mexican Defense Minister Ricardo Trivilla, special forces, with the help of US intelligence, carried out the operation in Tapalpa on Sunday morning. During the operation, El Mencho was tracked down hiding in the bushes, where he and two of his bodyguards were injured in a fierce exchange of fire. Later, the seriously injured drug lord and his bodyguards were being taken into custody and transported by helicopter when El Mencho died en route. A total of more than 70 people were killed in this major operation and the violent clashes that followed, including security personnel, suspected cartel members, and civilians. During these clashes, two rocket launchers were recovered, while a military helicopter had to make an emergency landing after being hit by gunfire. Authorities say El Mencho’s close associate, known as El Tully, offered rewards for killing soldiers, set up roadblocks, set arson attacks and planned attacks on government installations, but he was also killed in a separate encounter. According to Mexican security agencies, violence continues in Jalisco and neighboring states, but the death of El Mencho is being hailed as a major and symbolic victory in the ongoing war on drugs.
