KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company Managing Director Imran Maniar said that SSGC lost 21 billion rupees in the past, which has now turned into a profit of 2 billion rupees after taking positive steps. Due to gas shortage, supply to all 780 captive power plants has been stopped. He expressed these views at the luncheon meeting at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI).
On occasion, KATI President Faraz-ur-Rehman, KITE Limited CEO ZubairChhaya, Senior Vice President NighatAwan, Vice President Muslim Mohammadi, Former Presidents Zahid Saeed, Saleem-uz-Zaman, Ehtshamuddin, FarrukhMazhar, Fazal-e-Jalil, and Senior officials of SSGC Syed FasihuddinFawad, Adnan Sagheer, AamirMumtaz Khan and Abdul Razzaq were also present.
MD SSGC Imran Maniar said it is hoped that the gas supply to the captive power plants will be restored in the next few months. Maniar said that four district offices of SSGC have been established where all facilities have been provided to the customers. SSGC is a distribution company, and there are other companies for gas production. Despite difficulties due to the gas shortage, all possible steps are being taken to facilitate the industries. He added that we are improving the supply.
Earlier, KATI President Faraz-ur-Rehman said that the export industry is facing difficulties due to gas shortages. At the same time, the problem of lack of pressure is faced by all sectors. Rehman further said that the export industry would be ruined if gas was not provided to the industries. President KATI noted that due to the closure of industries, exports are decreasing, and imports are increasing, leading to a trade deficit.
ZubairChhaya, CEO KITE Limited, said that MD’s services are commendable for making SSGC a profitable organization. Industries in developed countries are given priority for the improvement of the economy. Unfortunately, gas supply to sectors on a priority basis is not ensured here. Chhaya said that due to rising gas prices, production costs had increased several times, which the industries could not afford.
Chairman KATI’s Standing Committee and former President Ehteshamuddin said that MD SSGC always supported solving the Industries’ problems. It is estimated that despite the gas shortage, it is impossible to supply according to the demand. Still, it is necessary to meet the need to run the industrial cycle.
Former President Zahid Saeed said that measures were to be taken to increase exports, but due to poor policy, exports are continuously decreasing. Industries are closing due to difficulties.
