Karachi : First Lady, Begum Samina Arif Alvi visited SCINOSA Day Home here earlier today, where she was welcomed by the school management, SCINOSA Board, Rotary Club members and the school band, and received a bouquet from the students. The children performed on the national song for the first lady. Principal SDH, Rizwana Khanum briefed Begum Samina Arif Alvi about the working of the school and its performance since its inception in 1960.
After the brief performance Begum Alvi was given a tour of the sprawling school where she interacted with the special students who were busy at work either in vocational activities like weaving, carpentry, block-printing, or engaged in sports like karate, or gymnastics or learning Math, English and Urdu. When visiting the kitchen, where students were busy exercising their cooking prowess, she was treated to the items freshly prepared by them.
Visibly impressed by all she saw, the First lady lauded the efforts of SCINOSA Day Home in providing quality education hope, love, care and vocational training to children with Down’s Syndrome. Begum Samina Alvi also appreciated the hand-made items created by the students and said she would play her role to create awareness for the need to integrate special children in mainstream society.
It may be noted that SCINOSA came into being to address the fundamental need of intellectually challenged children, with memberships consisting of their parents and well-wishers. The main aim of the society is to establish a platform for teaching and training of children with different types of difficulties, to help them become self-sufficient and value-adding members of the society.
