We do need to work on other fronts including education, active role in decision making, economics and politics to empower women. Calling on all faith leaders to take part in voicing up against GBV, Ambassador at Large for Global Peace & Human Rights Imam Allama Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui
PAKISTAN: Today we celebrate International Women Human Rights Defenders Day is an important moment of remembrance and a reminder of the women on the frontlines of human rights, harassment, imprisonment, or even death, activism and peaceful protest around the globe, including, in particular, the women human rights defenders and political prisoners whose case and cause have been taken up by the Interfaith Commission for Peace & Harmony (ICPH).
Ambassador at Large for Global Peace & Human Rights Imam Allama Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui says on International Women Human Rights Defenders Day Violence against women and girls are a human rights violation. Violence negatively affects women’s general well-being and prevents women from fully participating in society. It impacts their families, their community, and the country at large. These courageous women who are at the forefront of the struggle for peace and human rights are being arbitrarily arrested, detained, tortured in detention and convicted of trumped-up charges in sham trials — if the trials are even held.
All religions, all traditions promise justice, equity and protection against violence of all. All that touches on the dignity of all persons, no matter their sex, is simply not part of what our faith nor tradition allow. And so, on this day, we must let these brave women and their families know that they are not alone, that we stand in solidarity with them, and that we will not relent in our struggles until they are freed, as they are relentless in their struggle on behalf of peace, justice and human rights for all. We should always work together both women and men to help the victims so that they can have space in the society.
Interfaith Commission for Peace & Harmony (ICPH) Allama Ahsan Siddiqui said Per the Preamble of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; the parties have reaffirmed their faith in fundamental human rights, dignity and worth of the human person and in the equal rights of men and women. In religious circles, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence encourages faith leaders and communities to recommit to bringing the gender-just values of faith to our different contexts. We stand with Pakistan and global and make a personal commitment to not condone or accept any forms of violence against women and girls
We orange the world, pledge to end violence through the power of faith, value based education and more.Let us create an environment for equal opportunities. Let us ALWAYS ACT…”
