Houston Karachi Sister City Association hosted a Celebration Dinner to Honor Javaid Anwar.

Houston, Texas, USA: These were the words of Honorable Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner, as he handed the City of Houston Certificate of Proclamation to Syed Javaid Anwar (who has been termed ‘SJA’in short by the Honorable Consul General of Pakistan) at Houston Karachi Sister City Association Celebration Dinner.

“I proclaim that March 20^th, 2021 in Houston is the Syed Javaid Anwar Day.”

Recently Syed Javaid Anwar, an oil tycoon, entrepreneur, and philanthropist from Midland Texas, has been declared the recipient of the 2^nd Highest Civilian Award of Pakistan “Hilal-e-Imtiaz” by Honorable President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi. Syed Javaid Anwar will be receiving this award in Islamabad on the occasion of the Republic Day of Pakistan on March 23^rd, 2021. Syed Javaid Anwar is the Founder & CEO of Midland Energy in Texas USA.

The honorable Mayor gave this Proclamation Certificate at a splendid event organized by the Houston Karachi Sister City Association (HKSCA) at a local Hotel in Houston on Saturday, March 20th, 2021. Mayor Turner jokingly said Syed Javaid Anwar is among those persons, who can bring together Democrats & Republicans. He added that he himself has a similar humble background as Javaid, whom he termed a true role model for the next generation.

Present on this occasion was Mrs. Aleema Khan, Member of Board of Governors Namal Knowledge City Pakistan as a special Guest of Honor. The event was moderated by HKSCA General Secretary Omar Khawaja.

President of Houston Karachi Sister City Association (HKSCA) Muhammad Saeed Sheikh welcomed everyone and informed them about the efforts of Syed Javaid Anwar for humanity & society. He said Syed Javaid Anwar has diligently helped HKSCA in achieving the motto of Sister Cities International as envisioned by President Eisenhower in 1956; and that is “To promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation — one individual, one community at a time.”

Muhammad Saeed Sheikh thanked everyone for their presence, especially the Mayor of Houston as he had other commitments as well, and Honorable Consul General of Pakistan Abrar Hashmi in returning from Atlanta to be present. “Mr. Hashmi is one of the most engaged Consul Generals”: Added Muhammad Saeed Sheikh.

Honorable Consul General of Pakistan Abrar Hashmi termed Syed Javaid Anwar as “SJA” and said SJA’s love & care for humanity exemplary, and it is a proud occasion for all Pakistanis that SJA is receiving the Hilal-e-Imtiaz.

Syed Javaid Anwar thanked the people & institutions of Pakistan and the USA for giving him excellent opportunities to learn & get educated. He owes much to his single mother for her zeal in his upbringing; she was a telephone operator but made sure he got a good education at the best school & college in Karachi. He is grateful to his maternal grandmother, who gave him enough capital to travel to the USA & one-semester funding. “I used to work at the cafeteria to survive and finish my studies. I have struggled & closely seen hunger.” Said Mr. Anwar.

Syed Javaid Anwar emphasized young persons to get a good education, work very hard with a focus on excellence, and then rely on God & prayers for all the success. And once God Blesses, then spend from your Blessings for your fellow human beings.

Relatives of Syed Javaid Anwar from all over the USA attended this event. Also present was community leadership from Pakistani and International Communities, which included M. J. Khan, Dr. Ashraf Abbasi, Sajjad Barki, Haroon Sheikh, Ghulam Bombaywala, Ahmed AL Yasin, Cristal Montañéz, Atif Khan, Hashmat Effendi, Azam Akhtar, Khalid Kazi, Ilyas Choudry, Mian Nazeer, Shah Haleem, Dr Yakoob Sheikh, Dr Asif Qadeer, and many media outlets.

The event ended with a vote of thanks by the Vice President of HKSCA Mohammad Zaheer, followed by a sumptuous dinner at Mezban Restaurant.
