Vatican Envoy Praises Pakistan’s Role in Promoting Regional Peace

Ishaq Dar meets Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher to discuss regional peace and Pakistan–Holy See relations.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher on Friday. Gallagher serves as Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See. He praised Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace through mediation, dialogue and diplomacy, according to the Foreign Office.
The archbishop is visiting Pakistan from October 8 to 10. His visit marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the Holy See.
Dar welcomed Gallagher and acknowledged the Holy See’s role in promoting peace and interfaith harmony. He also praised Pakistan’s Catholic community. In particular, he highlighted its contributions to education and healthcare.
Pakistan and Holy See Discuss Regional Peace
Both sides discussed dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among faiths. They also reaffirmed their commitment to stronger bilateral relations and greater cooperation.
Dar praised Pope Leo XIV’s calls for peace. He also supported efforts to secure a just resolution to the Palestine conflict. Furthermore, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The Foreign Office said both leaders expressed deep concern over the continuing humanitarian crisis. They stressed the need for sustained international efforts to advance peace in the region.
First-Ever Visit by Holy See’s Senior Diplomat
The Foreign Office announced Gallagher’s visit earlier this week. It described the trip as the first-ever visit to Pakistan by a secretary for relations with states and international organisations of the Holy See.
During his stay, Gallagher is expected to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He will also interact with members of Pakistan’s Catholic community.
The discussions are expected to cover interfaith harmony and regional developments. Both sides will also address international issues and matters of mutual interest.
The visit marks an important milestone in Pakistan–Holy See relations. It reflects their shared commitment to stronger cooperation, trust and mutual understanding.
