FPCCI Committee Discusses Export Growth and National R&D Strategy
Business leaders at an FPCCI meeting in Karachi discuss export promotion, research and development, fisheries growth and a proposed fund for national R&D initiatives.

FPCCI committee discusses strategies to promote exports, R&D and Pakistan’s business sectors
KARACHI, September 12, 2026: The Central Executive Committee on Corporate Relations and Communication of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) held a meeting at Federation House in Karachi to discuss strategies for boosting exports and research and development.
The meeting was chaired by Convener Syed Turab Shah. Business leader and FPCCI Advisory Board Chairman Mian Zahid Hussain attended the session as chief guest.
FPCCI Focuses on Export-Oriented Industries
Mian Zahid Hussain highlighted FPCCI’s continued focus on research and development for export-oriented industries.
He stressed the importance of promoting “Made in Pakistan” products in international markets. He also discussed FPCCI’s work to promote tourism through research-based initiatives.
The goal, he said, is to strengthen Pakistan’s position as a competitive destination for international tourists.
Beauty Care Sector Also Discussed
The committee reviewed a proposal to establish an association for beauticians.
Members also discussed ways to support the beauty care products sector as part of FPCCI’s broader industrial development agenda.
The proposal aims to provide greater representation and support to businesses operating in the sector.
Proposal for National R&D Fund
A key proposal involved introducing a Rs0.50 surcharge on each bank transaction.
The proposal calls for the collection to come under the supervision of the Prime Minister and Finance Minister. The proposed mechanism would create a dedicated fund for national research and development initiatives.
Members discussed the potential role of such funding in supporting innovation and strengthening export-oriented industries.
Focus on Fisheries and Aquaculture
Ali Pesnani, Vice Chairman of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector at SBC Group, held a special discussion with the committee on Pakistan’s seafood industry.
The session focused on increasing seafood exports and expanding aquaculture in Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab.
FPCCI’s R&D team has been tasked with exploring new international markets for Pakistani fisheries products.
The team will particularly examine opportunities in the European Union, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United States, along with other global markets.

FPCCI Plans Media Campaign
The meeting concluded with a decision to launch a comprehensive media campaign highlighting FPCCI’s initiatives and achievements.
The campaign will use social media, print and electronic media platforms.
The committee said stronger communication would help increase awareness of FPCCI’s work on exports, R&D, industrial development and other business-related initiatives.
Eight of the committee’s 16 members attended the meeting. Participants included Mahmood Ahmad Khan, Ali Pesnani, Farah Javed, Javed Mirza, Shahbaz Islam, Junaid Ahmad Khan, Rizwan Hafeez and Convener Syed Turab Shah.
