Majmua The Art Gallery Showcases 16 Emerging Artists in Karachi

Majmua The Art Gallery showcased the work of 16 emerging artists in a group exhibition in Karachi.

The exhibition was organised as part of a week of celebrations dedicated to Ibn Sina. It featured paintings and artworks across several styles. The artists also received awards and certificates during a special ceremony.

16 Emerging Artists Take Part

The participating artists included Preh Bughio, Faiza Adeel, Aiza Junsid, Shazia Nayyar, Fatima Arzoo Hassan, Asiya Ali, Rehana Rafiq, Mariam Maaz, Zeba Raza and Sadia Nisar.

Dr Fatima Amir Kamal, Durre Samin, Kanza Abrar, Uswa Imtiaz, Rabiya Rizwan and Syed Nabeel Ahmed also participated in the exhibition.

The show followed an open theme. Therefore, artists were free to explore different subjects and styles.

Diverse Styles and Themes

The artworks covered nature, portraiture, landscapes, abstract compositions and conceptual art.

Some works drew inspiration from the legacy of Ibn Sina and the wider golden period of Muslim heritage. The exhibition also featured a portrait of Fatima al-Fihri, the renowned Moroccan educationist and social welfare figure.

In addition, visitors saw several calligraphy works and an artwork depicting Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.

The varied collection created a distinctive atmosphere inside the gallery. Meanwhile, the young artists eagerly awaited the award and certificate ceremony.

Collaboration Behind the Exhibition

The exhibition was organised through a collaboration between Mehreen Ilahi of Majmua The Art Gallery and Shahzad Khatri of Art Corner.

Their partnership brought together emerging artists and provided them with a platform to present their work to the public.

Guests Highlight Support for Artists

The chief guest was Soobia Khan, a banker with JPMorgan who was visiting from the United States.

Khan expressed plans to organise exhibitions in Houston from time to time. She also intends to support the creation of an art scholarship fund in the United States.

Two guests of honour also attended the event.

Bilal Masood, who runs an IT company, showed interest in helping artists learn how to promote and sell their work through social media platforms. His company also has a collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios.

Another guest of honour was Babar Ali, who heads a human rights organisation focused on justice and peace. His organisation is currently working on the rights of elderly people. It is also collecting 1,000 signatures in support of the initiative.

Ibn Sina and Cultural Partnerships

Dr Aydin was unable to attend the exhibition. However, his Pakistan-Turkey Cultural Forum and WAF supported the event in spirit.

The organisations were also represented through the certificates presented to participating artists.

Mehreen Ilahi further announced Majmua’s collaboration with Dr Aydin’s Ibn Sina Institute, the Silk Route Project and the Muslim Heritage Forum.

According to the announcement, memorandums of understanding for these collaborations were recently signed.

The exhibition offered emerging artists a platform to showcase their creativity. At the same time, it connected contemporary art with history, heritage and cultural exchange.
