A recent study has revealed that a common screening test used to diagnose Alzheimer’s may miss early signs of the disease in women. According to the study, women score better on tests such as the Mini-Mental State Examination, even after brain changes have begun. The study examined MRI scans of 332 people to understand changes in the brain’s gray matter, which is related to memory and thinking ability. Experts say that despite the initial damage, women’s brains adjust themselves in such a way that they maintain performance by using different parts, but this same ability also hides the disease, due to which by the time a clear decrease is revealed in the test, the damage has already increased considerably.
