KARACHI: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) has welcomed the Sindh government’s
approval of the Karachi Transformation Plan, terming it a historic and positive step toward the city’s
sustainable development and long-term economic revival.
KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput and Acting Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya congratulated Sindh
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Sindh government, the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), the
Local Government Department and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on the approval of the
comprehensive plan. They said the initiative would play a pivotal role in transforming Karachi into a
modern, world-class metropolitan city.
Speaking on the occasion, KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput said Karachi, as Pakistan’s economic
and commercial hub, urgently requires a well-planned and integrated development strategy to address
long-standing infrastructure and urban management challenges. He described the Karachi
Transformation Plan, developed in collaboration with the Frontier Works Organisation, as a
commendable and forward-looking initiative aimed at upgrading the city’s infrastructure on sustainable
and modern lines.
He said that through partnership with the FWO, significant improvements are expected in urban
infrastructure, transportation networks, roads, flyovers and other essential civic facilities. These
developments, he added, would directly contribute to improving the quality of life for residents while
strengthening Karachi’s position as the backbone of the national economy.
Rajput praised Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s leadership, vision and coordinated approach, noting
that bringing all relevant institutions onto a single platform reflects a serious commitment to Karachi’s
long-term development. He expressed hope that the approved projects would be implemented with
transparency, speed and high standards, enabling Karachi to emerge as a safer, more prosperous and
globally competitive city.
Acting Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya highlighted that the allocation of Rs84.796 billion for 523
development schemes, along with an additional Rs26.282 billion approved under the federal Public
Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for Karachi-related projects, represents a major and
encouraging investment in the city’s future.

He also commended the chief minister’s vision of developing Karachi on par with the world’s leading
cities. Chhaya said the decision to initiate development projects in partnership with the FWO
demonstrates a clear focus on quality, efficiency and transparency, and reflects the government’s
resolve to ensure effective implementation and accountable governance.
According to Chhaya, these development initiatives will not only upgrade Karachi’s infrastructure but
will also stimulate industrial, commercial and economic activity across the city. He noted that improved
infrastructure would help reduce business costs, enhance productivity and create new employment
opportunities, while providing better services and facilities to citizens.
KATI officials reaffirmed their commitment to fully cooperate with the Sindh government in all efforts
aimed at Karachi’s development and prosperity. They said the business community stands ready to play
a constructive role in translating this ambitious and historic vision into tangible outcomes for the city
and its residents.
