IRAQ : The incident of a young man setting himself on fire during a live broadcast on social media has become the center of attention around the world. People are increasingly sharing sensitive moments of their lives on online platforms. In recent years, there have been several reported incidents in which individuals attempted to take their own lives during live video, and this trend has once again come to light in Iraq. According to Iraqi media, the incident is linked to a young man from the Hammam al-Alil area south of Mosul, who used flammable fuel and set himself on fire while streaming a live video on Facebook. The young man was provided with medical assistance immediately after the incident and transferred to a hospital in the Kurdistan Region, where he is currently undergoing treatment. The video was later removed from Facebook. Police officials said that the youth had previously been convicted in drug cases in 2021 and 2022. Moreover, a new court order was also issued against him in absentia on charges of drug trafficking and promotion shortly before the recent move, which made the matter even more serious. The investigation also revealed that the young man was part of a five-member drug trafficking network, all other members of which had been arrested. However, the young man managed to escape from Nineveh and after some time suddenly became the center of attention by going live on social media. Police say that security agencies are in constant contact with the relevant administration of the Kurdistan Region in this case, and legal action will be initiated against the young man as soon as his condition improves.
