Mourning processions are being held in cities and towns nationwide, commemorating the bravery and unwavering faith of the martyrs of Karbala. Religious scholars and speakers (Ulema and Zakireen) are shedding light on the noble teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and various dimensions of the tragedy of Karbala.
Strict security measures have been implemented across the country to ensure peace and safety during the Ashura processions.
Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, holds special importance in Islamic history. The first of Muharram also marks Youm-e-Umar, commemorating the martyrdom of the second Caliph of Islam, Hazrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), who embraced martyrdom on 1 Muharram 23 AH (644 CE).
Ashura, observed on the 10th of Muharram, signifies the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (RA) along with his family members and loyal followers in the historic Battle of Karbala.
