Karachi: The Directorate of Electronic Media and Publication (DEMP), along with the Maritime Training Institute (MTI) and the Nautical Institute of Pakistan, held a seminar to celebrate World Maritime Day at the Pearl Continental Hotel.
This year’s theme, “Navigating the Future: Safety First,” focused on the importance of keeping our seas safe and using new technologies for a sustainable maritime future. Her Excellency Sarah Mooney, Deputy High Commissioner of the British High Commission, praised Pakistan’s blue economy, highlighting its 1,000 km coastline and the potential to boost the economy significantly.
Kevin Shakesheff, President of the Institute for Chartered Shipbrokers, spoke about the growing need for shipping and encouraged the maritime community to embrace new technologies. Madam Irum Tanveer Odho, DG of the Press Information Department, emphasized the need for safety and sustainability, especially with climate change affecting our oceans.
The seminar featured a documentary titled “Guardians of Our Coastline,” showcasing how mangroves help protect the environment. Syed Ahmad Mahmoodi, CEO of “M” International Group, concluded by stressing the importance of working together for a safer and more sustainable maritime future for Pakistan and beyond.
