Karachi: The Maritime Institute of Pakistan hosted a grand seminar on the occasion of World Maritime Day 2023, held at the prestigious Pearl Continental Hotel. The event marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the convention against maritime pollution, known as Marpol, under the theme ‘Marpol at 50.’


The official host, Vice President of the Nautical Institute of Pakistan , Mr. Ajmal Mehmoodi welcomed distinguished guests and maritime enthusiasts from across the region. Consul General H.E Conrad Tribble graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and urged a cooperation between Pakistan and United States for sustainable and green practices in the Maritime sector. Amongst the Guests of Honour were H.E Ambassador of Denmark Jakob Linulf who extended partnership to Pakistan for its conversion from non-renewable to renewable energy sources; And Madam Iram Tanveer, DG PID who represented the Federal Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and mentioned the screen tourism initiative under Pakistan Film and Drama policy, which aims to boost ocean tourism through the medium of films and drama. She also mentioned the establishment of the Film Finance Fund by the Directorate of Electronic Media and Publications, a strategic move to further enhance screen tourism in Pakistan.
