World Cotton Day is being celebrated today with a theme of “making cotton fair and sustainable for all: from farm to fashion”.
The day is marked on October 7 every year since 2019.
The United Nations wants to raise the visibility of the cotton sector and awareness of the critical role that it plays in economic development, international trade, and poverty alleviation.
The observance also aims to highlight the importance of sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
The purpose of the International Day is to maximize the importance of cotton, which ranges from its attributes as a natural fiber to the benefits people gain from its production, transformation, commerce, and consumption.
World Cotton Day also strives to emphasise the problems that the world’s cotton economies experience, as cotton is important for the world’s least developed, emerging, and developed economies.
