Showbiz Desk: Prominent actress and model of Pakistani showbiz industry Zara Noor Abbas says that not only social media but also showbiz industry in Pakistan women faces sexism. Zara said this in an interview given to the FUCHSIA Magazine.
Talking about the issues of sexism faced by women in Pakistani society, Parey Hut Love star said that men are more comfortable than women; more questions are usually asked of women.
Referring to one of her artwork made in the past, she said that women are often questioned in society and at home and their role is questioned. It is also tested and viewed from different angles but men are not asked so many questions. She said she had issued a statement that wasn’t well received and provoked backlash on social media.
Talking about the sexism in the showbiz industry, the actress said that even in the industry, there are different attitudes towards actors and actresses. With male actors, they become buddies. If the call time becomes late, they say don’t worry. But if a female actor’s call time is 6am and she doesn’t wake up at six, arrives at seven mistakenly, a complaint is lodged. And it goes to the production, to the director, to everyone.
Zara Noor Abbas said that I have become accustomed to such behavior, there is a lack of ethics in the industry but I think there should be professionalism between all the actors and their team.
“And if that professionalism is assumed as arrogance or nakhray dikhana, it is not like that, these are very basic things that we don’t get on our shoots, we’re very far behind. I won’t even talk about Hollywood, but considering other woods Bollywood, Tamilwood, or whoever — we’re way back when it comes to the ethics of working.”
The Zebaish star concluded by saying, “Everyone should be respected, there should be equality that isn’t there.”
