Karachi people should be ready, the Meteorological Department has warned that wind and heavy rain is likely in this evening.
The Meteorological Department has forecast intermittent heavy rains in Karachi from Sunday to Tuesday afternoon and also warned of urban flooding.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued orders for precautionary measures at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi in view of the Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy rain and thunderstorms in Karachi.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh, while issuing advisory to the concerned agencies, said that the administration should be ready to deal with possible urban flooding and other threats.
The PDMA said that the presence of machines and staff for drainage should be ensured, emergency helpline should be set up to help the needy, generators and other arrangements should be made for uninterrupted power supply in the hospitals.
There has been intermittent light rain in different areas including the coastal strip of Thatta and Kati Bandar. Due to the ban on sea hunting, fishermen parked their boats on the shore.
On the other hand, torrential rains in Kohlu district and Ziarat valley in Balochistan inundated low-lying areas and flooded mountain streams.
Mountain Sulaiman and Sherani also accumulated water in many areas after heavy rains.
Light and heavy rains are continuing in different parts of the country including Punjab and Azad Kashmir while melting of glaciers in Gilgit-Baltistan has increased the flow of water in streams.
The melting of the Ghizr Badswat Glacier has created a flood situation in the Ghizr River.
