Karachi (07 October 2024) Waqar Mehdi, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh and General Secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh chapter, strongly condemned the retaliatory actions and restrictions imposed by the Karachi railway administration against labor leaders. He called such actions reminiscent of dictatorial regimes and urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate notice of the situation.
Waqar Mehdi met with senior labor leaders, including Manzoor Ahmed Razi, Manzoor Ahmed Mallah, and Muhammad Naseem Rao, at his office in the Chief Minister’s House, where the labor leaders raised concerns over the degrading and anti-labor behavior of the Divisional Superintendent (DS) of Railways Karachi. The leaders described the actions as violations of their fundamental rights and requested Waqar Mehdi to address the matter with the higher authorities of the railway department.
In response, Waqar Mehdi immediately contacted General Manager Railways Aamir Baloch and urged him to put an end to the retaliatory measures against the workers. The General Manager assured that no injustice would be allowed against the labor leaders or anyone else.
Waqar Mehdi further stated that the labor leaders targeted by the DS Railways Karachi have long struggled for the rights of workers and the restoration of democracy in the country. He demanded that the retaliatory actions against labor leaders Abdul Hameed Baloch, Syed Shahid Iqbal, and Waheed Aslam be addressed. He also called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate steps to root out the dictatorial mindset among officials in the Ministry of Railways.
Waqar Mehdi reassured the labor leaders that as the representative party of the working class, the PPP will continue its struggle to resolve workers’ issues, protect their rights, and ensure their prosperity.
