KARACHI : Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah was met today by United Arab Emirates Consul General Bakhit Atiq Al Rumeeti at the Energy Department office. On this occasion, there was a detailed discussion regarding investment in energy sector and other issues including mutual interest. Minister Energy said on the occasion that the energy sector in Sindh province is rich in natural resources and is very fertile for foreign investment. Nasir Shah said that the alternative energy sectors have the potential to generate electricity from 55,000MW wind corridor, 500MW waste to energy, 100MW from bagasse. It has 130MW of hydropower generation capacity. He added that currently 3000MW of electricity is being generated from Thar’s coal and added to the national grid. Nasir Shah said that if we compare the coal of Thar with the oil reserves of Saudi Arabia and Iran, it is a thousand times more than both of them. UAE Consul General Bakhit Atiq al-Rumeeti, praised the government’s initiatives regarding alternative energy and assured to inform the UAE investors about the details regarding investments in the energy sector in the Sindh Department of Energy. I will also encourage them to invest. On this occasion, Minister Energy presented Ajarak, a traditional gift of Sindh, to the distinguished guest.
