U.S. Chargé d’affaires a.i. strengthens US-Pak relationships in visit to Karachi & Port Qasim.

KARACHI: U.S. Chargé d’affaires a.i. Angela P. Aggeler visited Karachi on March 23-25. During her visit, Chargé Aggeler met with Governor of Sindh Imran Ismail, Port Qasim Authority Chairman Hasan Nasir Shah, industry leaders, and professional female athletes to promote and strengthen the many ties between the United States and Pakistan in this the 75th Anniversary of bilateral relations between our two nations.

One of the highlights of Chargé Aggeler’s Karachi visit was her discussion with women athletes and sports journalists in conjunction with Women’s History Month. Chargé Aggeler commended the Pakistani sports stars for breaking barriers for women on the pitch, in the arena, and on the Olympic podium. “We re-affirm our support for the advancement and achievements of Pakistani women,” said Chargé Aggeler. “By elevating the status of women and girls in all sectors of society, we will create a better, more secure and more prosperous world for us all.”

Chargé Aggeler toured Port Qasim outside of Karachi and met with Port Qasim Authority Chairman Hasan Nasir Shah to discuss opportunities for broader trade and economic engagement between the United States and Pakistan. Chargé Aggeler also visited Excelerate’s floating liquefied natural gas and re-gasification unit, the Exquisite, where she met with crew members and learned about the company’s contributions toward Pakistan’s energy sector. “Economic cooperation between our countries has long been a fundamental aspect of our partnership and brings prosperity to both our countries,” noted Chargé Aggeler.

Chargé Aggeler observed the operations of U.S. companies Cargill and Procter & Gamble while at Port Qasim. Both companies are making a positive impact in Pakistan through corporate social responsibility activities. The United States is one of Pakistan’s largest sources of foreign investment, and Chargé Aggeler’s visit to Karachi and Port Qasim highlighted the importance of strengthening the U.S.-Pakistani economic relationship.
