KARACHI – A heartbreaking accident near Malir Halt claimed the lives of a pregnant woman, her husband, and their newborn when a speeding water tanker collided with their motorcycle.
According to police reports, 26-year-old Abdul Qayyum was taking his 24-year-old wife, Zainab, for a medical check-up when the reckless tanker rammed into them, resulting in their immediate death.
In a tragic turn of events, Zainab, critically injured, gave birth on the spot, but the newborn did not survive.
Eyewitnesses stated that angry locals attempted to set the tanker on fire, but the driver managed to escape. However, police swiftly intervened, dispersing the crowd and restoring traffic.
SSP Korangi Tariq Nawaz confirmed the arrest of the driver and his assistant, with legal action currently in progress.
The grieving father of the deceased woman, Gul Rahman, demanded severe punishment for the driver. Speaking to the media, he expressed his devastation, stating: “My daughter was expecting and had only stepped out for treatment. The tanker mercilessly crushed both her and my son-in-law. The driver deserves the harshest punishment.”
