The trial of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, who has been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail for the past three years, will be announced today (July 25). Protests continue in front of Indian embassies across the country.
It is pertinent to mention that the special court of India has on May 19 charged him with sedition, patriotism, obtaining funds for terrorism and involvement in terrorism in which he could be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Earlier, during an online hearing on May 10, Yasin Malik had said that he had no expectation of justice in India and would not pursue the case.
He had made it clear that I was fighting for the independence of Kashmir as peacefully as Gandhi, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Bhagat Singh had fought for independence.
Yasin Malik, 56, was arrested in Srinagar on February 22, 2019 under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Prevention of Illegal Activities Act (UAPA). He was arrested and transferred to Tihar Jail, Delhi, where his case is being heard in a special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Yasin Malik had hired Raja Muhammad Tufail Advocate (RM Tufail & Co.), a well-known lawyer of Occupied Kashmir, who was practicing in Delhi to pursue the case, but India put so much pressure on him through state power that Raja Tufail Brain died of hemorrhage, after which Yassin Malik did not seek the services of a lawyer.
According to sources, the Indian government and the intelligence agency RAW increased the pressure on lawyers so much that some lawyers’ organizations announced not to take Yasin Malik’s case while on the other hand Yasin Malik also did not have a reliable lawyer.
According to sources, Yasin Malik feared that if he hired a lawyer who could not withstand the pressure of the Indian government, such a lawyer could be part of a conspiracy to present him before the court and as a criminal in history. This is the reason why he decided to fight his own case but during the hearing of the case in the special court of India, Yasin Malik was not given a full opportunity to prove his innocence.
On the other hand, the news was deliberately spread in the Indian media with reference to the news agency Press Trust of India that Yasin Malik has confessed to the crime.
Yasin Malik is considered a symbol of movement not only in occupied Kashmir but all over the world. He has steadfastly led the Kashmir Independence Movement for the last 32 years and has not succumbed to Indian pressure. Protests against his sentence are taking place all over the world.
Protests are rife, especially among Kashmiri people. Yasin Malik’s mother from Occupied Kashmir and his wife Mashaal Malik and 10-year-old daughter Razia Sultana from Pakistan have appealed to the international community to play their role in stopping the judicial killing of Yasin Malik by India
