Islamabad & Karachi Centre organized a one-day training workshop on “Open Journal Management System (OJS)” on March 7, 2024, at the Latif Ebrahim Jamal National Science Information Center (LEJNSIC), ICCBS, University of Karachi. The workshop aimed to empower the journal publishers’ community with modern journal publishing tools and techniques.
PASTIC is a premier organization for the collection and dissemination of scientific and technological information to cater to the information needs of the scientific community at the national level.
The training session commenced with a recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address from Ms. Afsheen Tariq, Assistant Director of PASTIC Karachi. She provided an overview of PASTIC services and highlighted newly developed databases beneficial for researchers, setting the tone for the session and emphasizing the event’s significance.
Mr. Saifullah Azim, the Project Manager at PASTIC Islamabad, introduced the project titled “National Digital Archive of Research Published in Pakistani Journals.” He outlined the project’s objectives, achievements, and ongoing plans, providing insight into its significance for the research community in Pakistan.
Dr. Adnan Amin, a faculty member at the Centre for Excellence in Information Technology at the Institute of Management Sciences in Peshawar, conducted hands-on training on OJS as the resource person. He provided practical guidance on the application of OJS and addressed queries from editors, offering fruitful solutions. This training equipped participants with valuable knowledge and skills to utilize OJS effectively for publishing needs.
The training activity drew a significant number of participants from various universities and organizations, with over 65 consortium members and more than 20 additional participants joining the session via Zoom meeting.
During the closing session, Prof. Dr. M. Raza Shah (T.I), Professor & Editor at from ICCBS, served as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Raza commended the training objectives, acknowledged the efforts of the Project Manager, and praised the expertise of Dr. Adnan Amin.
In the vote of thanks, Dr. Syed Tufail Hussain Shah, Director at the National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, expressed gratitude towards PASTIC for organizing the training activity and appreciated the initiative taken by PASTIC and the dedication of the entire team
The Chief Guest recognized the efforts of the organizers and the resource person by presenting them with shields, while certificates were distributed to participants to acknowledge their attendance and active participation in the training activity.
