Karachi : With great admiration and belief in the columns of your newpaper, I seek to bring to your kind notice that the imbalance in the popularity of sports prevalent in Pakistan since a very long period of time. Cricket has gained enormous attention in Pakistan due to many victories it has witnessed over the years. However, Pakistan has the capacity to host and thrive in many other fields of sports that it once excelled in. Sports like hockey, squash, and many others remain least noticed, sponsored, and funded. Pakistan has a number of champions in these sports who have not been able to showcase their skills in their desired field. This lack of representation of Pakistan in these sports has not only hindered people from showcasing their skills, but has also hindered Pakistan’s progress in certain other fields of sports, where it can thrive like no one else. In order for other sports to build their place in Pakistan, the focus on cricket needs to get evenly distributed among other sports as well, so that they can get the same amount of recognition as well as government funding and sponsorship. I hope my thoughts can reach the relevant authorities through this platform and my concerns can be voiced.
