Karachi : The Liaison Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Karachi hosted a prestigious Interfaith and Intercultural Diplomatic Iftar Dinner at the State Guest House Karachi, attended by diplomats from various countries, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Consuls General, Honorary Consuls, members of the diplomatic community, business leaders, journalists, religious scholars, intellectuals, and civil society representatives.

The event aimed to highlight the spiritual message of Ramadan, promote interfaith harmony and cultural dialogue, and showcase Pakistan’s positive, balanced, and responsible role at the global level.

The participation of the Consul General of the Sultanate of Oman and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Mr. Sami Abdullah Salim Al Khanjari, was warmly welcomed and described as a reflection of the strong and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Oman. Addressing the gathering, Director General of the Foreign Liaison Office Karachi Muhammad Irfan Soomro said that the current global landscape is marked by uncertainty, regional conflicts, rising extremism, and growing social divisions, emphasizing that meaningful dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect are essential for sustainable peace. He added that representatives of different faiths and cultures coming together at one table send a powerful message that harmony, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence are possible despite differences. Referring to the historic address of Pakistan’s Founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, on August 11, 1947, he stated that Pakistan was founded on the principles of religious freedom, equality, and state neutrality, which continue to guide the country’s domestic and foreign policies.

He further highlighted that the land of Sindh is illuminated by the teachings of Sufi saints, particularly the great poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, whose universal message of humanity, love, and goodwill remains highly relevant in today’s global context. Speakers noted that Ramadan is a month of patience, sacrifice, compassion, self-accountability, and social responsibility, values that contribute to balance, moderation, and justice in international relations.

During the Iftar, participants discussed bilateral relations, trade and investment opportunities, cultural exchanges, and the constructive role of media in projecting a peaceful and moderate image of Pakistan globally, with the journalist community’s presence being considered vital in promoting Pakistan’s positive narrative internationally. On the occasion, renowned artist Hameed Soomro presented one of his paintings to Director General Muhammad Irfan Soomro,

widely appreciated as a symbol of cultural expression and harmony. Diplomatic circles noted that such international gatherings help bridge gaps between different faiths and civilizations while reinforcing Karachi’s global significance and Pakistan’s balanced statecraft. The event concluded with participants renewing their commitment to promote the message of peace, tolerance, dialogue, and mutual respect embodied by Ramadan, contributing to global stability, international cooperation, and shared prosperity. On the occasion deputy DG, Sadia Gohar Khanum, Assistant to DG Maryum and others officials also present.
