Karachi,23 October 2024 : The Government of Sindh has announced a crackdown on the use of official number plates on private vehicles. Sindh’s Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Excise, Taxation, and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has directed the Excise Department to take strict action in this regard.
A high-level meeting of the Excise and Taxation Department was convened in Karachi, chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting included key officials such as Secretary Excise Muhammad Saleem Rajput and DG Excise Aurangzeb Panhwar, along with other department officers. During the meeting, it was reported that the Department of Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control has successfully collected 34% of the annual tax revenue within just three months and 15 days. In response, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon issued directives for the Excise Department to increase tax targets and accelerate tax collection efforts.
It is also decided that the department will provide vehicle registration and transfer facilities at home, aiming to enhance convenience for the public, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that starting January 1, vehicle registration and transfer processes will become available online. This initiative allows citizens to register and transfer vehicles from the comfort of their homes, as well as pay motor vehicle taxes online. By eliminating cash transactions, the government aims to enhance convenience for the public and promote greater transparency in the tax payment system. This move aligns with the Sindh Government’s vision to simplify the tax payment process and improve overall efficiency Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that the Government of Sindh is committed to providing the best public services. He stated that all measures aim to address the problems faced by the people. He also noted that the Excise and Taxation Department has collected 34% of the tax target for the current fiscal year, which is a welcome development. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that vehicles with official number plates should also be thoroughly checked, and action must be taken against those displaying official number plates on private vehicles. He emphasised the need for more comprehensive measures regarding vehicle registration, tax payment, and the verification of number plates
He instructed that the communication campaign for the online auction of premium and personalized number plates should be intensified to raise funds for the construction of houses for flood victims. Additionally, he called for a campaign to expedite the online auction process of these premium and personalized number plates
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that to ensure access for more participants in the online auction, efforts should be made to attract a larger audience. He emphasized that the funds collected from this auction will be used to construct houses for flood victims.
