The Consulate General of France celebrated the Bastille Day on Sunday, 14 July 2024.
The Governor of Sindh, Mr. Kamram Tessori, along with other Consul Generals and dignitaries, attended the event.
Karachi Pakistan : The Consul General of France, Mr. Alexis Chahtahtinsky highlighted during his speech that celebrating Bastille Day this year is very special indeed for the 3 reasons.
First being the Summer Olympics being hosted by France, starting from 26th July and until 11th August, after 124 years after Baron Pierre de Coubertin undertook to revive this beautiful tradition inherited from ancient Greece.
The second thing that makes this celebration of Bastille Day in Karachi so special is that 2024 is, of course, an Election Year in both countries. The election results in France are surprisingly similar to what we saw in Pakistan, with a political landscape almost evenly split amongst 3 major political forces. It remains to be seen what coalition will emerge when the French Parliament convenes, starting from next week.
The third thing that makes this celebration so special is the Economy. After some protracted difficulties, witnessing some positive developments in the economic situation as a whole and in our bilateral cooperation in particular gives us more reasons for hope.
He also thanked the sponsors of the event and highlighted the different cultural and educational cooperation between the two countries.
The formal proceeding to the event ended with the beautiful display of fireworks over the creek, a French tradition.
