Karachi: The delegation of Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) consist of Mr. Sana
Ullah Ghumman, Secretary General, PANAH and Mr. Munawar Hussain Country Coordinator,
Global Health Advocacy Incubator visited at Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority
(PSQCA) and convene meeting with Dr. H.U. Khan, Director General, PSQCA here at Karachi.
The delegation discussed regarding the Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) which are
skyrocketing in Pakistan and unhealthy diet high in salt, sugar and tranfats is among the major
risk factors of NCDs diseases. The PANAH and PSQCA shall work together to formulate
policies and standards to reduce the factors of diseases and deaths in the country. The
Director General, PSQCA offered Dr. Abdul Qayyam Awan, Executive Vice President of
PANAH to lead the special Technical Committee on health to be constituted by PSQCA to
discuss issues pertaining to public health importance. The PSQCA and PANAH agreed to
keep close liaison for working together and strengthening cooperation between the two
organizations.
The Director General, PSQCA informed that a Technical Committee on Healthcare will be
constituted and headed by Dr. Abdul Qayyam Awan, as Chairmain of the Technical Committee
and PSQCA will support PANAH in healthcare sector. He further said that PSQCA will
encourage, support & assist for formulation / adoption of health & safety standards.
