World-famous Colombian singer Shakira could face up to 8 years in prison for tax fraud.
According to international media reports, singer Shakira is facing some legal difficulties as she is being tried by a Spanish court for tax fraud of 14.31 million dollars.
Shakira turned down an offer to settle the tax fraud case and will now face a court hearing of the case where she could be sentenced to 8 years in prison.
According to reports, the court has allowed the case to proceed but the date for hearing the case is yet to be announced.
In this regard, the singer’s lawyer says that “allowing the court to hear this case is only a step forward in the process in this case”.
He said that ‘there has been no change in the situation and everything is going on as usual and the singer’s lawyers will do their work by presenting their written arguments at the appropriate time’.
He added that ‘Shakira is confident that her innocence will be proven by the end of this trial’.
It should be noted that singer Shakira is accused of not paying 14.5 million euros in taxes on the income earned between 2012 and 2014.
