KARACHI – Members of SITE Association of Industry, Karachi, have vehemently supported the viewpoint of Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry to end the monopoly of K-Electric in the mega city for power generation, distribution and sale of electricity.
President SITE Association Suleman Chawla, in a press statement, said that Karachiites are suffering for over 17 years due to non-performance of K-Electric who literally made no headway in meeting electricity demand of the city.
“We are an affiliated body of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry and join hands with them on behalf of industries of SITE area Karachi in the larger interest of Karachi people, traders, businessmen and industrialists”, said SITE President.
Chawla welcomed NEPRA move to invite comments from stakeholders regarding Modification in the existing distribution license of K-Electric Limited, granted 17 years ago, and allow more companies to conduct business of distribution and sale of electric power to consumers in Karachi, comprising Industries, Commercial establishments, Shopping Malls and homes.
President SITE further said that industrial, commercial and residential consumers are at the mercy of K-Electric and have no other option but to purchase electricity from K-Electric. Impact of the monopoly of K Electric for nearly two decades has been extremely damaging to the economy.
“At least 3 to 4 companies should be issued licenses for distribution and sale of electric power instead of just one, in order to ensure a competitive pricing, quality of service and maintenance of infrastructure”, Chawla remarked.
