Karachi: The 8th Committee Meeting of the Directorate of Anti-Quackery took place on 1st December 2021, at the Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) Head Office.
Convener and Committee Chair, Dr. Khalid Hussain Shaikh and Member Committee Dr Abdul Razzaq Shaikh, approved the penalties of 32 quackery cases including 06 cases from Larkana, 08 from Hyderabad, 04 from Mirpurkhas, 01 from Sukkur, 01 from Shaheed Benazir Abad and 12 from Karachi under section 9(2) of the SHCC ACT 2013.
The total amount of Rs 940,000 (0.94 million) was imposed as penalties after all cases were analyzed in light of the rising quackery.
It was decided in the meeting that existing ground realities be analyzed while dealing with health care practitioners to nurture better communications with them and improve their knowledge on health care practices to be effectively followed for the welfare of the general public.
Committee Chair Dr Khalid Hussian Shaikh further stated that strict follow up checks be conducted by the Anti-Quackery team against each penalty case to ensure that repeat offenders are identified and dealt with strictly.
The Director Anti -Quackery debriefed the Committee about the steady improvement in the recoveries of fines. It was recommended by the Directorate of Anti-Quackery to gradually impose heavier fines on the rising number of illegally de-sealed premises. The meeting was attended by CEO-SHCC Dr Ahsan Qavi Siddiqui, Committee Member Dr Abdul Razzaq Sheikh, Director Anti Quackery and his team of Deputy Directors.
