Sindh Governor Meets University Leaders to Address Education Challenges

Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi met vice chancellors and chancellors of public and private universities in Sindh on Monday.

The meeting focused on key challenges facing higher education institutions. Representatives also presented proposals to improve university operations.

Universities Seek Solutions to Key Issues

University representatives raised several concerns during the meeting. These included funding, solar panel installations and faculty appointments after retirement.

They also proposed reducing tax rates on university faculty. Other administrative and academic issues were discussed as well.

The governor assured the participants that their recommendations would receive serious consideration. He said efforts would be made to implement the proposals soon.

AI and Technology Highlighted

Governor Hashmi stressed the growing importance of artificial intelligence in education.

He said every academic field should benefit from AI. He described the use of modern technology as an urgent need.

The governor also called for greater focus on research. He said universities must align education with industry requirements.

Moreover, he urged universities to provide more opportunities in technology, research and artificial intelligence.

Focus on Pakistan’s IT Exports

Hashmi said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has a vision to increase Pakistan’s annual IT exports.

He said the target is to take IT exports beyond $25 billion.

According to the governor, universities and young people have a key role in achieving this goal.

He added that young Pakistanis equipped with modern education can drive national development. They can also contribute to prosperity and stability.

Regulatory Support Needed

The governor said regulatory bodies must provide stronger support to universities.

He called for more effective facilities and assistance for higher education institutions.

Hashmi also directed his Principal Secretary, Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman, to help prepare a comprehensive framework.

The framework will focus on resolving the problems faced by universities.

Public and Private Universities Attend

Representatives from 10 public universities in Sindh attended the meeting.

More than 30 private universities also participated. Their representatives included chancellors, vice chancellors and senior officials.

Public-sector participants included Jinnah Sindh Medical University Vice Chancellor Dr Amjad Siraj Memon.

NED University Vice Chancellor Dr Tufail Ahmed also attended.

Sindh Madressatul Islam University Vice Chancellor Dr Mujeebuddin Memon participated as well.

Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University of Law Vice Chancellor Justice (retd) Dr Kausar Sultana was also present.

Private-sector representatives included Jinnah University for Women Chancellor Wajihuddin.

Indus University Chancellor Khalid Ameen also attended the meeting.

Dr Muhammad Altaf Mokati, Vice President of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute, was among the participants.

Hashmi said universities must prepare young people for a technology-driven future. He stressed that modern education and research remain essential for Pakistan’s progress.
