Shipping Companies Must Support PM’s Vision by Staying Open on Saturdays: Khurram Ijaz

Karachi: Keeping shipping company offices open six days a week is essential to reduce the cost of doing business and to support the growth of the national economy. Shipping companies must not ignore the Prime Minister’s directive in this regard.

Customs, logistics, and supply chain expert and former President of the Karachi Customs Agents Association, Khurram Ijaz, has appreciated all prominent shipping companies that are complying with the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s instructions by keeping their offices open on Saturdays, thereby ensuring facilitation for the trade community.

“This positive step has not only reduced delays in cargo delivery but has also significantly cut down demurrage charges and container rental costs, providing major relief to the business sector,” he said.

However, Khurram Ijaz expressed serious concern over reports that a few shipping companies have recently resumed closing their offices on Saturdays. He cautioned that this trend could undermine the Prime Minister’s efforts to improve trade facilitation, and if not addressed, may encourage other companies to revert to Saturday closures.

He appealed to all shipping companies to continue keeping their offices open on Saturdays in line with the Prime Minister’s directives, emphasizing that uniform compliance is essential for smooth trade operations, greater transparency, and reduced costs.

Khurram Ijaz stressed that adhering to this directive is not only a matter of professional responsibility, but also in the best interest of the national economy and the business community. He expressed hope that all companies will act in the national interest by continuing Saturday operations.
