Sadia Jabbar’s web series Shameless Proposals – Episode 2: Get into a Flirt-Fest and Hope for the Best
Lo and behold! Episode 2 of Sadia Jabbar Productions’ Shameless Proposals is out and it would leave you in a dilemma – you wouldn’t know whether to laugh at the sarcastic comedy of the ordeal the girl has to face, or to feel sad about how freakishly close to reality this satire actually is.
The episode lightly brushes on a few very major issues when it comes to “rishta” for Mashriki girl:
a. The premise that being openly (and irrationally) flirtatious is directly proportional to a man’s masculinity.
b. That the man can be as provocative as he wants to be and finds no fault in it, yet he firmly believes that he has the ultimate right to hit on a girl if she dares to step out of her house, for whatever reason.
c. The widespread point-of-view amongst a few narrow-minded members of our society who still believe that a man of questionable character is bound to magically change and turn into prince charming after he is married off to a ‘shareef’ girl.
What would make you laugh (rather cynically) is when the poor girl’s parents finally realize that the guy never actually had marriage in mind! Are we even surprised at that?
