Pakistani cricketer Shaheen Shah Afridi has left the Army fitness camp in Kakul, reportedly in response to being removed from the T20 captaincy. The 24-year-old pacer is set to join the national cricket team for an Iftar dinner, where they will meet with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir.
Afridi’s departure comes after he was abruptly removed from the T20 captaincy, a position he had been appointed to following Babar Azam’s decision to step down from leading in all formats. However, Afridi’s tenure as captain saw Pakistan lose a series to New Zealand, leading to speculation about his future in the role.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has clarified that Afridi left the camp with formal permission and that he is celebrating his birthday. Despite his recent frustrations, Afridi has expressed his willingness to move forward under the current setup.
The cricketer’s departure from the camp follows a cryptic social media post in which he suggested that he may show a different side of himself if his patience is tested further. Afridi is known for his bowling prowess and has been a key player for Pakistan in recent years.
