The Committee was briefed about the various functions of PQA which is to provide adequate, timely and cost efficient port facilities to cater expanding maritime trade of Pakistan.
The Committee was chaired by Senator Rubina Khalid in the presence of Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, Senator Abida Azeem, Senator Dost Muhammad Khan, Senator Naseema Ehsan along with other members of the management of PQA.
Further, the Committee was apprised of the positive progress of PQA which according to Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2021 by World Bank ranks 81 out of 370 ports which shows an uptick of 236 points from last year. Similarly the profit numbers have grown as well followed by an increase in the number of vessels. The Chair emphasized on generation of employment opportunities for the youth and it should be a part of PQA.
The management mentioned that PQA is already working on development projects which will increase the capacity of PQA.
The senators acknowledged the positive growth rate of PQA and increase in revenue generation.
