Khairpur – A Seminar on Breast Cancer Awareness was held at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur
organized by the Institute of Gender Studies in collaboration with Health & Hygiene Society.
Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur
presided over the seminar.
Talking to the participants, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said the Institute of Gender
Studies is organizing the awareness seminar on breast cancer as a regular feature. He said the
cure is better than prevention. The Vice Chancellor remarked that social responsibility is the
need of the time to aware the masses regarding this fatal disease. Shah Abdul Latif University,
Khairpur is providing social platform for the capacity building of the youth. He said the
participants are also master trainers to disseminate the knowledge regarding this disease to the
people. Dr. Ibupoto commended the efforts of Director Institute of Gender Studies Prof. Dr.
Agha Nadia and her team for organizing this awareness seminar.
Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences said breast cancer
campaign is launched globally to aware the masses to fight against this disease. This seminar will
provide better knowledge to the patients in the community.
Prof. Dr. Agha Nadia, Director Institute of Gender Studies said that it is high time to adopt
flexible attitude with the patients of breast cancer. She said early detection and diagnose is very
essential to fight against the breast cancer. She said that it has been reported that approximately
178,388 new breast cancer cases were registered in Pakistan in year 2020. This is the grim
situation. She accorded special thanks to Vice Chancellor for sparing his precious time to preside
this seminar.
Dr. Bushra Shaikh from Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College, Sukkur discussed how
timely detection can save life. She talked about self-assessment, awareness and myths and facts
about breast cancer.

Dr. Aisha Nabeel, Breast Cancer Consultant, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto University,
Larkana focused on the clinical side of breast cancer. She informed the audience about when to
do self-assessment and when to access specialist, chemotherapy and radiotherapy processes.
Dr. Carollina spoke about the prevalence of Breast Cancer in Western countries, support
systems and social protection available for patients.
Prof. Dr. Khalida Mahar, Ms. Zubeda Bhatti, Ms. Maria Isani, Ms. Shumaila Rubab Rizvi, Ms.
Taj Bibi, Ms. Razia Malik and large number of students attended the seminar.
