The Karachi Commissioner has imposed Section 144 for 48 hours, starting December 31, 2024, to address safety concerns surrounding New Year’s Eve celebrations. The decision aims to prevent injuries caused by aerial gunfire and fireworks, which have been common during festivities in the city.
Under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, gatherings of four or more people are restricted, and activities like carrying firearms, aerial firing, and fireworks are banned. The notification, issued on December 24, 2024, follows intelligence reports highlighting the traffic chaos and public inconvenience caused by crowds heading to Seaview in cars and motorcycles.
