Karachi: A week long Advanced Search and Rescue Training Program, conducted by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) at Karoonjhar Mountains, Nagar Parkar, Sindh, in cooperation with IHH Humanitarian Aid Foundation Disaster Management and Sindh Scouts Association, was completed with the closing program and certificate distribution ceremony held at the Sindh Boys’ Scouts Association Provincial headquarter in Karachi.
In addition to the search and rescue volunteers participating in training, Cemal Sangu, Consul General of Türkiye in Karachi, Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, Former Chief Secretary of Sindh Government and Provincial Commissioner of Sindh Scouts, Halil Ibrahim Baiaran, Head of TIKA Karachi and many other guests attended the closing session of the training program.
Cemal Sangu, Consul General of Türkiye, said that, “From the feedback from trainees, It is clear that this Search and Rescue Training has been very successful. TIKA, with its 63 offices in the world, has been sharing expertise of Türkiye in different sectors. With its 2 offices in Pakistan and such trainings, it shows how close we hold Pakistan to our hearts.”
Provincial Commissioner of Sindh Scouts, Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah thanked government of Türkiye, TIKA and IHH and said that such collaborations will help SBSA to build its own Search and Rescue Training Academy.
Speaking at the program, Halil Ibrahim Baiaran, Head of TIKA Karachi said, “We are very pleased to be successfully implementing the search and rescue training with Sindh Scouts which we offer in many countries around the world.” He thanked the Sindh Scouts Association for their contribution to the successful completion of the training. Baiaran stated that TIKA will continue to support this cause to make the trainings sustainable, stating that they will be completed in several stages.
Ahmet Türkmenoilu, Chief Trainer from IHH, one of the leading Turkish NGO said, “Although the training area and view were beautiful, the weather conditions were very harsh, our students showed an extraordinary performance. I thank all our students for their invaluable efforts to acquire the information and techniques about the saving lives.”
Habib Uddin, Team leader from SBSA expressed his gratitude and said, “If we had received this training earlier, we could have saved more lives in previous disasters in Pakistan”.
The closing ceremony ended with certificate distribution to trainees. The Training program will continue with Urban Search and Rescue Training and Search and Rescue Training in Water.
TIKA conducts Search and Rescue Training in different countries of the world like Bosnia, Lebanon and Pakistan under Emergency and Disaster Response Training Program (ADAMEP), which consists of Search, and Rescue Training in Nature, Urban Search and Rescue Training and Search and Rescue in Water
