A study conducted in the UK has shown that honey is more useful than any other medicine in cough and cold. The results of this study by experts from the University of Oxford have been published online.
According to media reports, honey has been used in the treatment of various diseases for hundreds of years in Eastern countries, especially in Muslim countries, while in recent years, various scientific researches have proved the medical efficacy of honey.
The home remedy for “licking honey” in colds, flu and coughs is centuries old and perhaps thousands of years old. Some studies have even claimed that this home remedy is more effective, safe and useful than all other medicines (including antibiotics).
In the latest study, medical experts at Oxford University scrutinized 14 previous investigations into the alleged efficacy of honey, especially for colds, flu and coughs, involving a total of 1,761 people.
Although this analysis showed that honey is actually more useful than antibiotics in colds, flu and coughs, at the same time it was found that the quality of previous research was not very good and Every such study must have had some technical flaws.
In light of these points, experts say that the medical efficacy of honey has historically been a matter of course, while scientific research over the past few decades cannot be completely ruled out.
A comprehensive and careful scientific study is needed to bring this debate to a conclusion.
