Karachi : As soon as the month of August begins, the series of “Azadi Mushairas” begins. This is also a way of paying homage to the leaders and martyrs of Tehreek Pakistan. In this regard, many literary and cultural institutions of the city organized mushairas, but the chief organizer of “Saknan-e-Shahr Quaid”, Mehmood Ahmad Khan, took a stand against All of them. “Azada Mushaira” of “Saknan Shahr Quaid” held in “Angan Lawn” Gulshan-e-Iqbal was important in many respects. Mahmood Ahmad Khan recived the long-standing traditions of mushaira through the medium of this mushaira. Open air, pleasant atmosphere, excellent poets, sophisticated audience, the spring of floor seat cushions, this scene is seen in very few mushairas. During the mushaira, light rain was also having great fun. Mahmood Ahmad Khan and his companions welcomed every visitor with great joy.
Dinner was organized before the performance. National flags of Pakistan were also distributed among the participants, but the “National Anthem” was not played, perhaps the organizers forgot in the act. On the contrary, there is no international Mushaira of “Saknan-e-Shahr Quaid” in which the national anthem of Pakistan is not heard with reverence and respect.
Azadi mushaira was presided over by Prof. Saher Ansari, one of the most respected poets, critics, intellectuals and educationists of the Urdu world. Who remained in the Mushaira until the last moment despite his ill health. Such fashionable people now said? Dr. Jameeluddin Ali (deceased) once said that it is our good fortune that we are alive in the era of Sahar Ansari. It is a matter of pride for all of us that we also saw the era of Prof. Saher Ansari, listened to his talks and read Mushairas with him. Dubai’s renowned poet, Dr. Zubair Farooq Al Arshi, attended as the guest of honour.
Among the distinguished guests who were invited on the stage was Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, who is a founding member of “Saknan-e-Shahr Quaid”. Initially administered by Iron Farhat, later Dr. Anbarin Haseeb Anbar performed this duty very gracefully. Both performed the administrative duties in a very careful manner. After the recitation of Holy Quran and Naat Sharif, the host of the Mushaira Mahmood Ahmed Khan gave his welcome speech and said that first of all I would like to thank the President of the Mushaira Prof. Saher Ansari that he is present among us today despite his bad character. I am also grateful to all the poets who brightened our gathering and entertained the audience with their fresh words. The audience is the “backbone” of any event and no event can be imagined without them. The large number of audience in the Mushaira also lifted my spirits.
He said that I wish to keep alive all the traditions of my ancestors. It is a matter of great pride for me that I have the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui. I do not do any program without their consultation. He said that the international Mushaira of “Saknan-e-Shahr Quaid” is held in connection with “Pakistan Day”, now Karachi Mushaira will be held every year on the occasion of Independence Day.

Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui said in his speech that I have the honor of being one of the founders of “Saknan-e-Shahr Quaid” and I have participated in all the international Mushairas of “Saknan Shahr Quaid”.If after the death of Azhar Abbas Hashmi, Mahmood Ahmad Khan had not come forward, this ancient tradition would have died out. Mehmood Ahmad Khan has revived the literary tradition of “Saknan-e-Shahr Quaid” and interpreted the sentiments of his ancestors.
It is expected that they will keep this caravan of knowledge and literature moving in the same way.
Professor Saher Ansari said in his presidential address that all the traditions were taken care of in this mushaira, by which “Saknan-e-Shahr Quaid” is recognized. Mahmood Ahmed Khan is the owner of a very strong nerve, beauty and elegance are seen in all his work. Undoubtedly, there are traditions of our ancestors.
He devoted his life to the service of literature, writers and poets. This mushaira is also important because all the poets recited quality words in it, the best poetry came out on the subject of freedom. It would be too much not to appreciate the listening taste of the audience.
I congratulate Mahmood Ahmed Khan and his entire team for organizing this successful Mushaira and also appreciate them for representing the new generation of poets in their Mushairas. It was a memorable mushaira in which apart from the notable poets of the city, the learned audience also participated in large numbers.
